First, let me just say that publishing and sending payouts 7+ weeks after an event is NEVER the plan. This event has struggled with timely payouts for a few years now and I’m not sure what the solution is. Having said that, I want to thank EVERYONE who played in this event for your patience.

Overview

This was our biggest Birthday Bash to date, with 226 players (113 teams) competing on a beautiful day in Golden Gate Park! I’d like to thank Philip and Connor for buckling in and kicking butt on running the event. I’d also like to shout out Alex Georgopoulis for putting in SO MANY hours working on the course so that we could all enjoy a unique and fun layout! Lastly, I’d like to thank all of the volunteers who helped with work parties, course setup, managing tournament central, and breakdown. Your contributions are greatly appreciated!

Payouts & Results

This is a very unique, non-sanctioned BYOP doubles event. We pay $ to ALL divisions, not just PROs. Here is the logic that was used to calculate payouts:

• Event net profit = available cash payout ($1.90 remained to make even numbers)
• PDGA Payout Tables were used
  • PRO: Used PRO Mid curve (~40% of field is paid)
  • ALL OTHER DIVS: Used AM Mid Curve (~45% of field is paid)
• Payouts were normalized ($ per team) across all divisions
  • Player pack values for each division were taken into account for this calculation
  • All divisions except Pros received a 2021 – 2024 club disc
  • All divisions received a towel
• Adjustments:
  • Transferred 2.5% of cash payout to PRO division (increasing PRO payout is common)
  • Then transferred 0.75% of cash payout to WOM (this should be typical)
  • Net Mulligan $ (DGS Only) were added based on division buy in
• Membership revenue was treated like all other revenue
• Entry fees were the same for all divisions ($120)

• Cash payout: $ 9,775.00
• Total payout (includes player packs): $ 12,134.80

IMPORTANT: ALL PAYOUTS WILL BE SENT TO THE PAYPAL ACCOUNT THAT PAID THE ENTRY FEES. Please coordinate with your partner to split the money!

2024 (17th) Birthday Bash Payouts!!!

Hi All,
On behalf of the TD team and your club officers, we thank you all for your patience around these delayed payouts.

Sometimes personal commitments interfere with the best intentions and duties assumed by our volunteer Tournament Directors. This is one of those times. Again, thank you for your patience!

Mike Sale will be sending out payouts via Paypal this afternoon. The entire payout for a given team will go to the Paypal address that was used to pay registration fees.

We’d like to remind everyone that this is not a PDGA event and we typically do not have sponsors to help cover the costs for the event. The result is lower payouts than what some might expect.

 In the spirit of full transparency, here is how they were calculated.

• Total Payout (all divisions) = Event Net Profit + Club Support ($7000.00 = $6,383.53 + $616.47)

• Event Net Profit includes ~$235 of membership dues paid by people playing the event.

• Proceeds from Mulligans were distributed to each division (not all divisions purchase mulligans at the same rate)

• Players in the PRO division did not receive a disc as part of the players pack. We valued the discs @ $12 which resulted in an increase of $552.00 to the PRO payout ($12 x 46).

• Payouts were then determined for each division based on the number of players with additional adjustments (increases) made for rounding and to ensure the smallest division(s) received a nice payout. These adjustments were covered by the Club’s contribution.

• A minimum of 33% of teams were paid out in each division (including ties). This is slightly lower than it would be for a PDGA event.

The 12th Annual SFDGC Birthday Bash was held on Saturday, April 13th, 2019.

For the 3rd  year in a row, the format was BYOP doubles. More info on the format can be found here.

The 10th Annual SFDGC Birthday Bash was held on Saturday, April 22nd, 2017. In a break from the typical format employed at past events, this year featured a best shot BYOP doubles format. The change in format allowed us to accommodate more players and definitely added to the festive atmosphere.

We had 101 teams (202 players) compete in the event, a record number of participants at the permanent Marx Meadow course! Master TD Sean Jack designed a 24 hole layout that was both challenging, fair, and fun.

The competition was divided into 4 pools: A, B, C (century – combined age at least 100), and M (mixed).

As is tradition, there was a cash payout across all divisions, which was funded in part by mulligan purchases ($5 each, MAX 2 per person).

Congratulations to our division winner: “Das Boot” — winning A Pool in an epic 5 hole playoff, “Underberg 8.0” — winning B Pool also in a playoff, “That’s another fine mess you’ve gotten us into” & “WigglyWarsen” — tying for the win in C Pool, and “Alternative Jacks” taking down the Mixed Pool.

In addition to the doubles competition, we celebrated with games, a huge birthday cake, and by spending time with the people who make this community so special!

The 9th Annual SFDGC Birthday Bash was held on 04/16/2016. A total of 143 competitors braved an awesome and unique 20-hole layout, procured by TD Sean Jack. We celebrated with games, a huge birthday cake, and by spending time with the people who make this community so special!

Thanks to all those that helped make it happen and to those that participated. We hope to see you next year.
