It’s party time again. Work party time. This weekend! We will be starting at 8am on Saturday July 17th at the Golden Gate Park Disc Golf Course. There is much much much to be done, so we need all of the help we can muster. There will be lots of wood chipping to do, especially on the back nine. We need to clean out the basket positions, as well as some erosion control.
As always the course will be closed to play for the duration of the work party. There will also be a second work party this month, on the 31st of July to get the course ready for the 2010 San Francisco Safari (more information on registration for that coming soon).
So please try to make a few hours, or a day, to come out and help the course look and be the best it can! Thanks!

First of all – Thank you to all the people who came down on Saturday to help with the Golden Gate Park work party. We got almost 40 people volunteering out there, and the course looks great because of it. There was a ton that was done. Here is the quick version of what we accomplished:
* Wood chips, wood chips, wood chips! The course need some ground cover love. The newly chipped paths and pin locations look pro!
* Nets! There were a few nets in disrepair due to vandals. We replaced these, as well as redid almost all of the netting with plastic poles to hopefully avoid more vandalism.
* Paths! We bolstered quite a few of the paths around the course as well as built a new one coming off of the tee box for #8:

There is much work to be done with our efforts to build a second SF course in McLaren Park. The opposition, Save McLaren Park, is out-organizing us. We need to step it up on showing exactly how much support there is in SF for disc golf. One of the biggest ways we can show our support is by writing letters to Rec and Park Department. Please take the time to send a postcard or letter to the General Manager of the Recs and Park Department, Phil Ginsburg, here:

Work party that is! Our beloved course needs work, and the time is upon us. We are going to be doing work parties on a more regular basis, and this coming week brings the first of many to be had in the near future. Please join us from 9am to 4pm to put some love back into the course. There are nets to be replaced, tanbark to put down around pins, and much much more to do! The future of the Golden Gate course, as well as our chances at getting more courses built in SF, depends on making Golden Gate look GREAT!
