Meeting Notes from SFDGC Club Meeting, 1.5.98

(Compiled by Club Secretary, Dan "Edo" Warburton)

In attendance: Q (Greg Quiroga), Edo (Dan Warburton), John Starr, Coop (Bill Cooper), Ken Ingrey, Shad-Daddy (Shad Augenstein).

Prior to there being a quorum, long-distance putting (with a $1 per game entry fee) raised $15 for the club treasury. The money was accounted for and given to the Treasurer (Coop).

Intro: Club dues for the 1998 year were also collected. Basic dues of $5 for annual membership, complete with voting rights and the right to receive monthly newsletter were collected. Two members also paid $20 to receive the above and a disc and T-shirt when they become available. In total, $55 was collected in dues (and another $20 was pledged).

Old Business:

Incorporation as a Tax-exempt Non-profit Organization

Recap-- fees total $205 and timeframe is around 3-6 months from filing.

Issues--Filing is not overly burdensome, but maintenance and paperwork associated on an on-going basis is not insignificant.

The club agreed to table the topic until further developments; no vote to incorporate or not incorporate was held.

Club Housekeeping

Address: we need a permanent one, a PO Box was suggested.

ACTION: Coop volunteered to arrange for a PO Box, but requested that each member share in the responsibility for checking it. Club agreed that checking PO Box would not be burdensome and would only need to be done monthly (say before the meeting?)

Bank Account: we need one.

ACTION: Coop will investigate opening a second account under his personal account (to avoid setup and monthly fees). He will update club at next meeting.

Fundraising:

Club--we have no money for anything

Tried and true method (albeit slow) of buying discs in bulk and selling them.

ACTION: Q to talk to Innova about bulk discounts.

"I know I'm good for at least $50 a month in discs," said Q. Other members, thinking of Aquatic Park and the nasty hole 8, were seen to be nodding their head in agreement.

Discussion centered around members committing to sell discs or be at monthly tournaments with club discs. Most members agreed that a monthly committment was reasonable.

McLaren Park--need money for matching funds from Friends...

Ken suggested we leverage off of the Winter Ultimate League.

ACTION: Ken to contact winter ultimate league organizers, especially in regards to the possibility of getting their mailing list.

Ken also suggested going to corporations for donations, John (who was remarkably quiet during the whole meeting) stated that we needed some official club identity (business cards, letterhead, etc) before

we knocked on corporate doors. The suggestion of a rubber stamp with the SFDGC logo and some contact info (web site URL and phone #?) was made.

ACTION: Dan to arrange for rubber stamp, will work with Shad to create basic look.

Membership:

#1 priority is to get courses installed in SF. Once we have a course membership is expected to increase.

Safari:

Question of whether we should take it over came up. We agreed that in principle we should run the tournament, but we needed some more information from Dave Welty before we committed. Specific

information includes: how are the finances handled? What are the typical expenses? What about insurance/liability?

ACTION: Q to talk to David Welty and then club needs to elect (hopefully someone will volunteer) a Safari chairperson.

Thanks to all for your participation, next meeting will be held on the

first Monday of February, 7:30pm at Q's house, (contact < a href="mailto:q@sfdiscgolf.net">Q for directions)
