14 December,1997 Community Meeting On McLaren Park Proposal:

Thursday, December 18, 1997 from 7:00 to 9:00PM the Recreation and Parks Department of the City and County of San Francisco is hosting a community meeting on the proposed disc golf course in McLaren Park. If you would like to see the first permanent disc golf course installed in San Francisco you need to attend this meeting. It is crucial that we set an example for the parks department and community members as responsible, dedicated disc golfers.

The disc golf community is comprised of friendly, helpful, and responsible people who love their sport and the great outdoors: let's share this at the meeting.

The meeting takes place at the Louis Sutter Playground Clubhouse, located at Woolsey and University Street. The 54 Felton Muni runs to within a block of the Clubhouse. For directions to the meeting, or more information on it, contact Ross Hammond.

Doubles Tournament

The SFDGC is hosting its first doubles tournament on Saturday, December 20 at 10:00AM. We aim to build this into a large monthly event, and carry it over to our first home course --which we also aim to put into McLaren next May. The monthly doubles tournament is a chance for beginners and experienced disc golfers to shoot a fun round of golf together. Emphasis is upon having fun, and learning. Entry fee is $5.oo/person, teams are drawn randomly: 1 member from the experienced pool, 1 member from the learning pool. SFDGC members carry spare discs, in case you cannot get to Games of Berkeley to get your own. Prizes include discs, minis, and various other disc-related goodies. All ages welcome.

We intend to move the doubles tournament around some of the area courses until we get our own course, so stay tuned here to get the lowdown.

Membership Drive

The SFDGC is actively seeking members to help build San Francisco's premier disc golf club, as well as its first disc golf course. If you are a beginner who wants to get into the sport, or an experienced golfer we want to hear from you. We shoot informal rounds every weekend, and are currently establishing our events. Everything we do is aimed at having fun, learning how to throw better, and helping to clean up the park in which we play. We are competitive and yet remain low-key. Knowledge of the rules is not a precursor to shooting rounds with us, but a desire to learn and abide by them is. If there is something about us that you think could be better, or an event that you would like to see happen, join on up! For more information, contact Greg Quiroga, or to become a member, contact Bill Cooper.
