July 16

At 6:25p on Tuesday night, as I sat on the stump that marks the first tee waiting for anyone else to show up, I thought to myself,"Why do I even bother? Is it worth it, always waiting for people who do not show up, breaking my back --and quite possibly a law or two-- just to have old timers tell me I can't do it? Just to hear that the course is too short? Or too long? Or too hard?"

I have not really sat down lately and thought about what I am doing in a long time. All I know is that I have an incredible desire to build a course, the sooner the better.

I realized I was just feeling sorry for my pathetic game, and I was bummed because I tend to shoot better in a group --lately anyway. =)

Finally Coop showed up, and it was time to play golf.

As we were finishing up on #7 we saw a lone figure running up and down the paths over by #4 and #5 with what appeared to be a disc golf bag in one hand! As this stranger came closerhe introduced himself as Tom Palmer, from Kansas City, and he found the course through the Internet.

Tom shot the remainder of the course with us and had a really great time, agreeing that the next time he was out in S.F. on business he would give us a call and do it again!

And that is why we bother. The feeling I get when complete strangers come out and follow a blueprint that we have created from scratch, and then tell us they liked it is indescribable (so I will shut up). To all of the people who have come out and shot the course, either with us, or on your own, I thank you. You validate our belief that we are doing the right thing, the hard work we have put in, and my personal obsession.

To the people like David Welty or Jeff Fiedler who offer advice, please do not think that because I blast it all over the newsletter or on the page that your advice is not valued. To the contrary, the fact that you offer advice is great: we take it to heart and make the changes, hoping that you will return to play another round with us.

To all of you who live in the bay area and have not taken the time to come shoot a round, boy are you missing out =).

On a side note, I am going to take two weeks off from working on the course, and I am not going to be available on weekends until August, due to some other commitments. I will still be out there shooting rounds during the week, and Bill or Dan will probably be available to take people through on weekends. I just need to catch my breath, and prepare for the marking of the tees.
