Gardener Ken

If you have spent any time playing disc golf in GGP over the last couple of years you will have probably either met Ken Preston or you are aware of his excellent work in the general Marx Meadow area. Ken has informed us that he will be leaving the Marx Meadow assignment against his wishes, based on a decision at SFR&P by his supervisor(s).

I asked Ken if there was anything we could do as individuals to help him appeal this decision. He said that anyone interested should write to or call SFR&P Mgr. Philip Ginsburg at (415) 831-2701 and tell him that you are not happy with Ken's reassignment. You might mention that he takes good care of this area of the park, he is approachable, friendly ambassador for SFR&P, and he clearly has a plan for maintaining and improving Marx Meadow and the surrounding area. The plantings around Marx Meadow and the meadow itself look much better than they did two years ago, due in large part to Ken's efforts.

Ken has spoken well of our DG community to the people with whom and for whom he works at SFR&P. He will appreciate any effort we as a group and individually are willing to make on his behalf.

Hi -- could I second (and third) JT's suggestion that you pick up the phone and call the General Manager's office (415-831-2701) and ask that Ken NOT be reassigned because of the great job he has been doing on the course. It's important that as the Dept hear from as many people as possible about this.

This will only take ONE MINUTE OF YOUR TIME.

I just made a call to Park & Rec on behalf of not reassigning gardener, Ken Preston. The secretary said she had made a

point of putting this on a "call list", for General Mgr. Ginsburg. Don't know if that means we've made a difference yet or not.

Once we know it is resolved one way or another, please be sure and update this topic. Meanwhile keep those calls comin' in!

In case you hadn't heard, Ken Preston will remain as the Marx Meadow area gardener. He said that he appreciates the support he got from the SFDGC, and he believes that we helped make the difference. Good news!

That is great, great news. It's always good for the Dept. to hear when they've done something positive -- if you have a moment this week call the General Manager's office (831-2700) and thank them for reinstating gardener Ken.
