Any thoughts on if this festival in the park will be an issue?

Ummm.....based on the line-up this will essentially shut down play.

Tom Petty, Radiohead, and Jack Johnson = a crapload of fans coming to Speedway from all directions.

Since it's a ticketed event Speedway Meadows will be closed making it harder to get to the Safari course if the club was planning on using the same area of the park this year as last year.

Can we re-schedule Safari?

Seems like a major issue to me too. Last Safari, during a quiet Saturday, we couldn't finish two rounds before dark. Can't imagine the disaster when thousands of people cross both courses as they venture to and from their parked cars. The pace would be grueling, and who knows how many live discs would be picked up by the unknowing concertgoer. Anyone who played the Sunday weekly during the Summer of Love Festival knows just how impossibly frustrating this would be.

I don't know what it takes to reschdule the event, but I would defnitely back that decision. The weekend before (August 16th/17th) looks open on the NorCal Series calendar... does anyone know of a conflicting park event that weekend?

does anyone think this concert won't be an issue?

that weekend is out, too...

Ren Fair = August 16 & 17

if we do decide to move the date (and i highly recommend we do), i wonder if we should get in touch with the parks dept and/or organizers of any other annual events that happen in the meadow to find out what's coming up. i know its early in the year yet and a date may not be set but if we had a line of communication with said parties, we'd be the first to know what they are doing.

Major issue

Postby kylecrispin » Wed Mar 05, 2008 10:39 am

There is no way we can have the Safari at the same time as this concert.  It is in no way possible.  If Radiohead is in the park you know a massive mob of people, including myself and most people i know, will be there.

the 9th/10th looks currently like the only other viable option in August.
Am worlds in Michigan is the following weekend. Has anyone heard from the man with the strings if any contacts have been made yet?

UPDATED:  We have been aware of this event for a few weeks and are scrabbling to find a new date.  We obviously can't do it the same weekend we planed with an event this size in the park.

NEW SAFARI Date Aug. 9th & 10th

Postby snyderman » Mon Mar 10, 2008 8:47 am

Due to conflict with other major Festivals happening in the Park.

The San Francisco Safari has been rescheduled to Aug. 9th & 10th 2008.

Norcal will be updating their website to reflect the change.

If you want to voulenteer for for any part of the Safari.
Please contact Scott Snyder at  sridley27@yahoo.com.

This year the Event will also be a charity event for Larkin Street Youth.

So by helping the Safari you will also be helping get kids off the street.

What is going on guys???

Greeting from Maryland. I was just wondering if the 9th and 10th are set dates or is there a possibility for those to change. I want to start planning a trip back for the safari and don't want to have to change them later.

So Brian are you going to be the TD again this year? If so I am going to hold you to your offer.

Hope all is well with everybody, see you in August.

Hiya Tom--
We're working to finalize the Safari date.  Check back for more info as it becomes available.

But more importantly, how's the bbq out there?

Glad to see your post and hoping all is well witchoo.  The GGP course is, um...very popular.

The Safari is the 9th & 10th.

We had our permit denied for all but the 18 hole permanent course.  We are try to work out the final details on exactly how many players we can hold and  what divisions we will have.  We should have all the details up in a couple of weeks, if not sooner.
