Work Party This Saturday (July 17th, 2010) — Course Closed!
July 13, 2010
It’s party time again. Work party time. This weekend! We will be starting at 8am on Saturday July 17th at the Golden Gate Park Disc Golf Course. There is much much much to be done, so we need all of the help we can muster. There will be lots of wood chipping to do, especially on the back nine. We need to clean out the basket positions, as well as some erosion control.
As always the course will be closed to play for the duration of the work party. There will also be a second work party this month, on the 31st of July to get the course ready for the 2010 San Francisco Safari (more information on registration for that coming soon).
So please try to make a few hours, or a day, to come out and help the course look and be the best it can! Thanks!

SFDGC Work Party Wrap Up!
June 22, 2010
First of all – Thank you to all the people who came down on Saturday to help with the Golden Gate Park work party. We got almost 40 people volunteering out there, and the course looks great because of it. There was a ton that was done. Here is the quick version of what we accomplished:
* Wood chips, wood chips, wood chips! The course need some ground cover love. The newly chipped paths and pin locations look pro!
* Nets! There were a few nets in disrepair due to vandals. We replaced these, as well as redid almost all of the netting with plastic poles to hopefully avoid more vandalism.
* Paths! We bolstered quite a few of the paths around the course as well as built a new one coming off of the tee box for #8:
Check out many many more photos of the work party taken by club member Ron Schreier here:
Our next work party is Saturday July 17th at 8am! Please RSVP on the Facebook event here:
Looking forward to seeing you all again, on the 17th!
Golden Gate Park Work Party – Saturday, June 19th
June 11, 2010
It’s PARTY time again.
Work party that is! Our beloved course needs work, and the time is upon us. We are going to be doing work parties on a more regular basis, and this coming week brings the first of many to be had in the near future. Please join us from 9am to 4pm to put some love back into the course. There are nets to be replaced, tanbark to put down around pins, and much much more to do! The future of the Golden Gate course, as well as our chances at getting more courses built in SF, depends on making Golden Gate look GREAT!

Disc Golf in McLaren
March 24, 2010
Well we have exciting news about the McLaren Disc Golf course. San Francisco Parks & Rec Department & the San Francisco Disc Golf Club have agreed upon a preliminary layout for the McLaren Park Disc Golf Course. This is an amazing layout that includes a full 18 hole course with a wonderful variety of holes. There are a few wide open 500+ foot holes, a few tight and technical holes, lots of elevation changes and great views of San Francisco. This is a course that will challenge even the best players and is sure to become one of the premiere courses in the bay area.
Before we can move on to drafting an MOU with the city and start the actual construction of the course, we need to present the layout to the community. There is a general misunderstanding of disc golf in the community surrounding McLaren Park and thus there is a small but vocal opposition to the construction of the McLaren Disc Golf Course. Therefore these meetings will be very important to demonstrate to the city that there is a strong demand for disc golf in San Francisco. Up to this point, they have only been hearing opposition to the course. I have done my best to convince them that there are hundreds of disc golfers that are very excited to see the McLaren course completed. Now is the time to prove this to them.
April 10th 1pm at the parking lot of the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in McLaren Park: Course Walkthrough – We will have a walkthrough in McLaren Park of the purposed layout. This is a great chance to come out and see the planned course layout. But also, this is a meeting that will be attend by many members of the community who are opposed to the course and thus we need to have a large contingency of people who are excited by the layout.
April 20th 6:30-8pm at Crocker-Amazon Clubhouse (In McLaren Park near the corner of Italy & Moscow): Community Meeting This is the big meeting. This is a meeting to discuss Disc Golf in McLaren Park. I will give a presentation about Disc Golf in San Francisco and the course in McLaren park. We will then hear from the community about reaction to the purposed plan. It is important that the Parks Department hear many more positive responses than negative ones. Thus it is extremely important for the future of disc golf not just in McLaren Park but in all of San Francisco, that there are a huge number of disc golfers at this meeting. If you play disc golf in San Francisco, this meeting is a must attend event.
Since it is so important to have a big attendance to these meetings, it is critical for us to have an idea of who plans to attend. Please take a few minutes to answer the survey below. (Only 5 questions) Also please forward this to anyone you know who plays Disc Golf.
We will also be doing phone trees before the events to remind members to attend. If you can help make 10 calls in the days leading up to each of these meetings, please let me know and I will add you to my list.
Assuming we get an excellent turnout at both of these events, I believe we will be starting construction on McLaren Park by the end of the summer.
Course Workparty: Feb. 7th
February 3, 2009
We will be having a course work party on this Saturday, Feb. 7th. The work party will start around 8am and go till we run out of steam. You can show up any time during the day to lend a hand.
We will be closing different holes throughout the day as we work on them. If you are a new member or have not come out to a work party before, this is a great way to meet other club members and give something back to the Disc Golf community in San Francisco. Remember, the course is maintained completely through volunteer efforts, so we need everyone who can to come out and lend a hand.
Course Closed Aug 21-26
August 18, 2008
Due to the Outside Lands Music Festival this weekend, the Golden Gate Park Disc Golf course will be closed Thursday – Tuesday. The city has agreed to transport and stow the baskets from the course during the festival, but we will need help getting all the baskets to Marx Meadow on Thursday afternoon and returned to the course on Tuesday morning. If you are able to hep out Thursday at 1pm, please show up ready to lend a hand. If we can get 4 or 5 people, this should only take around an hour.
Workparty: June 7 8am-? COURSE CLOSED!!!
June 4, 2008
Those of us who will be around this weekend will do some routine maintenance on the course. Specifically we’ll be doing some chipping, watering, and hopefully some terracing to prevent erosion on some of the holes. It would be nice to put up and repair a could of the tee screens. Please come and volunteer your time. If you have tools please bring them. As always, part or all of the course will be closed during the work party.
April 5th: Work Party & Course Closed
March 31, 2008
I just wanted to reminded everyone that there will be a work party this Saturday April 5th from 8am-3pm. Feel free to show up any time during these hours.
As always, the course will be CLOSED during the work party. This allows the people who are taking the time to volunteer to work on the course, the freedom to work on the course without fear of getting hit by a disc. We will open the course after the work party at 3pm.
If you are unable to make next Saturday, remember we will now be having regular work parties on the first Saturday of even numbered months. Thus we will have the our next work party on June 7th. But I am getting ahead of myself…..
See everyone out there next Saturday.
